Level 3 Unit 2 Part 57: Somatosensory examination

Somatosensation can be screened quickly with touch, or assessed in more detail for the other primary modalities. A normal somatosensory examination could be communicated with: “Touch, pain, temperature, vibration, and position sense are normal in the proximal and distal limbs”. If applicable, stereognosis and graphesthesia can also be tested, and the location of areas of sensory loss may be mapped out, usually with a pin, and described.
